Video 1: Know Before You Go: Station, Platform & Onboard Evacuation

This video explains evacuation routes from the station, platform, and onboard the train. [sound of train rolling over tracks] As you move around the station, take a moment to find the exit doors. Remember, some exits could be in front of you, to the left and right of you, and behind you. If a station evacuation is needed, you will hear an evacuation announcement or a fire alarm. Remain calm and stop using all electronic devices. Follow the instructions from Amtrak personnel. Unless a specific exit route is indicated, use the nearest one. As you exit, continue to pay attention to your surroundings. When outside of the station, keep areas clear for emergency vehicles and personnel. Once it's safe, Amtrak personnel will guide you back into the station. [sound of train rolling over tracks] Please watch where you are walking. When on the train platform, stay well behind the yellow safety surface and never try to board or exit a moving train. If it is necessary to evacuate while you're on the platform, please remain alert. Amtrak personnel will instruct you where to go. Do not attempt to cross the tracks. You may be asked to board a train, move to an area at the end of the platform, or leave the platform entirely. [sound of train rolling over tracks] Amtrak has many types of train equipment across the country; all of them have emergency signage posted throughout the train cars. While you're onboard, look for the emergency signs. For your safety, hold the handholds, luggage racks, or seatbacks when you enter, exit, or move throughout the train. If you need assistance, please ask for help. Once you settle into your seat, take a moment to review the Customer Safety Instructions card. If there is an emergency while onboard the train, do not attempt to leave the train. Onboard the train could be the safest place. If a train evacuation becomes necessary, remain calm, pay attention to your surroundings, and follow the instructions given by the Amtrak train crew. If you need assistance, let an Amtrak employee know. There are three onboard evacuation routes. The first route is moving to the next train car. You may be instructed to move through the train vestibule door in front or behind you to the next train car. The second onboard evacuation route is exiting the train through the side doors. Follow instructions from Amtrak personnel as they direct you to move onto another train or to the ground. Pay attention when outside the train car for hazards like downed electrical wires, glass, or other train cars. The third onboard evacuation route is through an emergency exit window. This route should only be used if no other evacuation route is available. Emergency exit windows can be identified by the removal instruction sticker and red removal handle. If an evacuation is needed from the station, a platform, or onboard a train, it's important to stay calm and follow the instructions from Amtrak personnel or first responders. Video 2: Where to Go: Onboard Evacuation Routes

This video explains the three onboard emergency evacuation routes. If an onboard evacuation is necessary, listen and follow instructions from the crew. Do not attempt to leave the train on your own and never exit a moving train. [sound of train rolling over tracks] The primary onboard evacuation route is moving from the train car you are in, to the train car in front of you or behind you. Amtrak crew members will instruct you where to move, and if you should leave your belongings. When moving to the next train car, use the door release button to open the doors or pull the door sideways if the power is out. If you require assistance, let a crew member know. Please be mindful of accommodating passengers with disabilities, using wheeled mobility or assistive devices. [sound of train rolling over tracks] The second onboard evacuation route is moving off the train to the ground or to another train. If an evacuation to the ground is needed, the crew will give you instructions on how to safely go through the side door and down a ladder, or down steps and move to a safe waiting area. When exiting the train, watch for hazards such as downed electrical wires, steep grades, or other trains. Amtrak crew members may ask for willing and able passengers to assist outside the train car, or to lead passengers to the safe waiting area. If you can help, let the crew know. If a train-to-train evacuation is needed, the crew will place a bridge between your train and another train. You will then receive instructions on how to safely move to the other train. [sound of train rolling over tracks] And the third evacuation route is through an emergency exit window. This route should only be used as a last resort, and only if no other evacuation route is available. The number of emergency exit windows varies depending on the train equipment and the train car. Emergency exit windows can be identified by the removal instruction sticker and red removal handle on the window. Video 3: What to Know: Onboard Safety Tips

[upbeat music] Welcome aboard Amtrak and thanks for traveling with us! I'm Mark, and I'll be your conductor for this safety overview. Here at Amtrak, we aim to provide high-quality, safe, on-time service that exceeds our customer expectations. Let me walk you through some safe practices for you to use while onboard; in fact, let's take a little trip now so you know what to expect! Safely place carry-on items on a luggage shelf or beneath your seat, then take a moment to familiarize yourself with the area around you. Amtrak has different styles of train cars. Look in front and behind you for the doors at the ends of your train car. Also look for the emergency exit windows, restrooms, garbage and recycling locations. During your trip, be considerate of others. Don't use the seat beside you to store luggage or rest your feet. And please, put your cell phone on vibrate, use headphones and converse in low tones; you don't want to be that passenger. Also, friendly reminder; smoking or vaping are prohibited anywhere onboard the train, including restrooms. For your safety, when moving on the train, hello, Cafe Car; be prepared for unexpected movements and hold on to the seatbacks, luggage racks or handrails as you go. Keep your ticket and ID with you, as they could be requested at any time. Safety is our top priority here at Amtrak. Please take a moment to review the safety card in your seatback pocket. Also note emergency signs and locations for fire extinguishers, first aid kits and the Automated External Defibrillator, or AED. AED units are stored in the food service car. For trains without a food service car, ask a crew member for the AED location. Each Amtrak rail car is equipped with a first aid kit. We're proud to create a friendly and welcoming environment. Disruptive behaviors or harassment of fellow passengers or crew members will not be tolerated. If you notice any suspicious activity or behavior onboard, please notify a crew member immediately. Take a moment now and save the Amtrak Police Department number in your phone. To call APD, use 1-800-331-0008; or text 27311. Remember, if you see something suspicious or out of place, let us know! Always give your attention to announcements made by your conductor during the trip. If you cannot hear them clearly, please stop any uniformed Amtrak employee and request assistance. In the unlikely event of an unplanned disruption in service, your crew will provide information as soon as possible. Incidents may occur outside the train that cause delays. Should this happen, remain seated and listen to instructions from your crew, and use extra caution when evacuating. If asked to evacuate a train car or move off the train, you will be given instructions to either gather or leave your possessions. Please let a crew member know if you need assistance. Staying on the train could be the safest option. During an evacuation, there are three ways of safely exiting the train: moving from train car to train car; moving to another train; and, only as a last resort, moving through the emergency evacuation windows. Instructions are posted on the window. Please review the evacuation instructions on the seatback safety card and wait for directions from the crew or emergency responders before attempting to evacuate. Additionally, look for notifications on the Amtrak app, in your email, or text messages to your mobile device. As we reach your station, listen closely to the announcements. Gather your personal belongings and be prepared to exit the train immediately when it comes to a complete stop.切勿登上或离开正在开动的列车。 Also, please watch your step when moving through the vestibule onto the platform as these may become slippery when wet. Designated doors will open, and as you step out of the train car, hold the handrail, and mind the gap between the train and the station platform. Ask for assistance if needed.
